Are you passionate about humanist activism and secular social justice? If so, you may be a good fit for the American Humanist Association’s social justice internship. This is a great opportunity to support the organization’s current work advancing humanist values and creating an inclusive humanist community, while gaining professional experience in programming, activism, and writing.
The social justice programming intern will:
- Assist AHA’s social justice programming committees. Draft social media posts each week on social justice focused current events and calls to action
- Draft educational materials such as social media toolkits on humanism and social justice issues
- Research current events, join coalition calls, and identify outreach opportunities relevant to our social justice initiatives
- Draft advocacy campaigns, action alerts, and briefs on legislation and policy goals
- Aid with contact and follow-up with individuals, groups, and organizations engaged in humanist and social justice activism
- Write articles for our online magazine, TheHumanist.com
- Other duties related to assisting the policy and social justice department, and other staff members of the AHA office as assigned
Qualifications:
- Interest in advancing social justice from a secular vantage point
- Interest in humanism and willingness to work to advance humanist values
- Intersectional understanding of cultural prejudices and oppression
- Familiarity with current social issues, including (but not limited to) race, gender, sexuality, wealth, and disability
- Applicants should be enthusiastic, organized, self-motivated, and reliable
- Strong writing and communications skills
Time Commitment: 12 consecutive weeks, between 20 and 30 hours per week, flexible schedule. Due to COVID-19, this internship will be remote, and eligible candidates will need access to reliable internet and a computer during business hours.
Compensation: $15.20/hour
